Congrats to Macy Oswald (a member of the Turn 2 Premier School) on her
recent signing of her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of
Wisconsin to play softball. Macy signed last week at O'Fallon High School
with her family, coaches, and teammates in attendance. Macy is a very
competitive and passionate athlete. Coach Healy will love having her apart
of the Wisconsin program. Congratulations!

Congrats to Paige Pluester (a member of the Turn 2 Premier School) on her recent signing of her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Missouri-St. Louis to play softball. Paige signed last week at Roxana High School Commons with her parents, coaches, and teammates in attendance. Paige is a great player and a great teammate. Congratulations!

Brad Hinkle

Brad Hinkle comes to Turn 2 as the newest Baseball Pitching Instructor. Coach Hinkle has an impressive resume that includes previous experience in both the Cleveland Indians and the Pittsburgh Pirates professional organizations. With a consistent fastball pitching speed of 90-91 miles per hour, Coach Hinkle was able to allow very few hits and logged many strikeouts while pitching in the professional arena. Coach Hinkle has a solid base of knowledge in the pitching realm, and was known to be very coachable and determined in his seasons playing professional baseball.

Coach Hinkle was a standout at Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Although he played two sports in college, Coach Hinkle excelled greatly at baseball. He had an impressive 15 starts with a 15-0 record in these starts. He also logged 14 complete games of the 15 starts. Coach Hinkle was named to the All-American team his senior season at Spring Arbor University, and was the 2008 NCAA National Pitcher of the Year. Coach Hinkle graduated from Spring Arbor University and has a degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Fitness Management.

Brad has spent the last 3 years at Redline Athletics in San Juan Capistrano, California. Brad acted as the Head Pitching Instructor and & a Sport Development Specialist. During his time at Redline, Brad developed private sport training, as well as strength and conditioning programs. Brad helped Redline become the most sought after training facility in Orange County!

Brad will now be working with Turn 2 to develop our baseball pitchers as well as other training programs for all of Turn 2's athletes.

Sunday Night Baseball Hitting Through March 4th!!!

A great way for hitters to stay tuned up for the season!

Turn 2 will be holding Sunday night hitting sessions all winter long for those High School & Junior High Baseball Players looking to stay in swing shape during the off season. Each session will feature a Turn 2 Instructor taking hitters through various drill stations, as well as Live Batting Practice.

Sessions will run every Sunday night from October 9th to March 4th. Leading right up the start of the High School Season!

Each session will last 1 hour and there will be a max of 8 hitters per session to insure plenty of reps for everyone!

Packages of 4 Sunday Night Hitting times can be purchased for only $75!

Turn 2

KERBY ICENOGLE

Kerby Icenogle played basketball from 1^st grade recreation league through her junior year of high school. In addition to basketball, Kerby ran cross country in high school and threw the shot put and discus for her high school track and field team as well. Through her athletic career, she lettered at the JV level in all three sports (cross country, basketball, and track & field) and lettered at the Varsity level in basketball. She continues to run at the long distance level, with a 2^nd place finish overall in the 10k field most recently. Her most vivid words of wisdom come from a basketball coach that told her, “You better not ever walk off the court on a miss. You always, always end with a make – in anything you do.”

Kerby graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work with a minor in Developmental Psychology in December 2010. She now works at SSM-St. Mary’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit as a Psychiatric Therapist full time and works at Turn 2 doing the scheduling desk part-time and behind the scenes with emails and updating the website. She credits her past coaches and their words of wisdom to keep pursuing an ultimate dream of obtaining her Master’s in Social Work with emphasis in Health to work as a hospital social worker – hopefully in the trauma sector.

ABBIE BATES

Abbie Bates comes to Turn 2 as a softball hitting instructor with a vast athletic background. She was a tri-athlete in high school receiving 12 varsity letters in basketball, softball, and golf. She played infield for her high school softball team and in college was a shortstop and third baseman. She was MVP, All Conference, and 1^st Team All Area in high school and was part of the 2007 Division II National Championship Softball Team at SIU-Edwardsville. Bates finds the most encouraging words of wisdom she received from a coach is, “Never give up on your dreams. If you work hard and give it your all, nothing is unreachable.”

Abbie Bates was the JV Head Coach at Edwardsville High School for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. She has also spent two years as the Head Coach for the 14U Glen-Ed Sliders. She finds success in her biggest coaching accomplishment of only having 1 loss at the JV level during her coaching experience thus far. The most rewarding coach experience she finds is seeing her athletes on the team grow, not only as an athlete, but as a person, from the first practice to the last practice of the season. Knowing the she has made some sort of difference in their lives is irreplaceable.

Four College Coaches Help At Premier Camp

College coaches from Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Eastern Illinois were on hand during both days of the Premier Softball Camp held at the Sports Complex in Collinsville, IL on July 6th and July 7th. Each helped with a select station from defense to offense to hitting and fielding. The college coaches helped with what they had personally selected and prepared for during camp.

Jason Dorey (assistant coach at Eastern Illinois), Diane Miller (assistant coach at Nebraska), and Kris Ganeff (assistant coach at Notre Dame) introduce themselves at the start of Premier Softball camp.

Head coach from the University of Wisconsin, Yvette Healy, demonstrates a drill for fielding to a group of girls at the camp. Coach Healy explained the importance of knowing the basics of all positions and how each position relates to one another.

The team camp was designed to help softball athletes learn from Division I coaches and learn from the various experiences and stories the coaches each brought along. Overall, the teams all had a great opportunity and were able to learn from some of the best coaches in the softball arena.

NPF Diamonds Visit Premier Camp

On Wednesday, July 6, 2011, Turn 2/Athletix Factory hosted Premier Camp at the Collinsville Sports Complex. With the NPF Diamonds still in town for their first of four games on Wednesday, July 6 in Marion, they held batting practice at the Complex Wednesday morning, and following helped with instruction at Premier Camp. This was quite a surprise for the 8 teams that were present at Wednesday’s camp, and also quite an honor.

The NPF Diamonds also helped during an all-team drill as first and third base coaches. The campers were given instruction on how to judge certain situations, and the NPF Diamonds were able to explain how various situations allowed for different mental adjustments for the best base running.

Another station focused on defensive moves for the infield and outfield. Coach Yvette Healy of the University of Wisconsin had help at this station from three of the defensive players for the NPF Diamonds.

Overall, Wednesday was a great success! Thank you to the NPF Diamonds for taking time out to help lead in the instruction of premier camp athletes!

Professional Softball Team at Turn 2 / Athletix Factory!!

The Diamonds of the National Pro Fastpitch League worked out at Turn 2 on Tuesday. About 75 of Turn 2's Premier School athletes were in attendance to watch the practice and learn from the best. Following their practice, the Team took time to meet with the students and asnwer questions.

The Diamonds are passing through Collinsville on thier way to Marion, IL for their next game. While in Collinsville, the Team will be practicing at Turn 2. The team is also going to be featured at Turn 2's Premier Softball Team Camp on Wednesday.
